The Path of Exile 2 crowd has been watching the calendar closely, and Return of the Ancients is now the update everyone's waiting to see properly. The name does a lot of work on its own. Old powers, buried ruins, strange bosses, maybe a few nasty surprises in the campaign. That's the mood it gives off. Plenty of players are already checking stash plans, farming routes, and whether they should buy PoE 2 Items before the reveal changes the market, but it's worth taking a breath. Until Grinding Gear Games shows the actual systems, nobody really knows what kind of league we're walking into.

Build plans can wait
It's easy to get carried away before a reveal. We've all done it. You see a name, imagine a theme, then start building some wild starter in your head. The problem is that Path of Exile 2 doesn't need huge changes to flip the table. One support gem adjustment can slow down a whole setup. A small change to weapon scaling can turn a safe melee build into something clunky. Even a new unique can do the opposite and make an ignored skill look great overnight. So yes, theorycrafting is fun, but locking in a character now is asking for trouble.

Combat may get meaner
PoE 2 has never felt like a game that wants you to stand still and hold one button. The sequel leans harder into timing, spacing, and reading enemy attacks. If Return of the Ancients adds monsters with delayed slams, ground traps, or bosses that punish greedy damage windows, players will notice fast. Pure glass-cannon setups might still melt packs, sure, but they could fall apart the moment a fight asks for patience. Movement skills, stun recovery, block, armour, energy shield, and crowd control may matter more than another small damage multiplier.

The endgame is the real test
Most players will enjoy the reveal trailer, but the serious questions start with the endgame. How do we map? How do we chase bosses? What drops are worth farming, and can we target them without wasting a whole evening? If the expansion changes the reward structure, the economy will shift almost at once. Fast clear builds could become king if map density rises. Tanky boss killers could take over if the best rewards sit behind long, punishing encounters. That's the part people should watch closely, not just the flashy new skill effects.

What players should watch for
When the showcase arrives, don't just look at the loudest announcement. Pay attention to the quieter details. New item bases, charm changes, ascendancy wording, monster modifiers, crafting access, and drop rules often matter more than the headline feature. Players who trade or prepare early may also keep an eye on services and market movement through places like U4GM, especially when demand for currency or gear spikes after patch notes land. The smartest move right now is simple: stay flexible, keep your options open, and let the numbers speak before choosing your first build.
